You have a room-only reservation at the teahouses. At the lodges, you get to pick exactly what you want to eat, and you pay your bill every morning. For all of your meals, we advise that you allocate between $30 and $35 per person per day.
The teahouse menus are fairly extensive, and western cuisine is more expensive. Soft drinks, chips, and chocolate bars are offered, but the higher up the trail you travel, the more expensive they become—they can even cost as much as a whole dinner!
The teahouses’ accommodation rates assume that you will eat all of your meals there. They provide reduced room rates with the understanding that they will make money from the sale of food. Every teahouse has a standard policy in place.
As a result, you are not permitted to dine outside the tea house and under no circumstances are you permitted to bring food inside.
